We recently came across this www.gantthead.com article and wanted to share it with you. It makes a number of points but what we found most interesting is how it dissects what it terms as the "project governance" problem. Our customers often relate to us the project that was done for political reasons that becomes a headache to manage and complete. The article works thru the details of how this comes about in an insightful manner. "How we set expectations, who is able to set those expectations, and who should be included in the consultation process of identifying expectations are all ultimately a product of how the governance of a project is managed."
We found especially interesting the insights about setting of reasonable expectations. We find that often there is a disconnect between Engineering and Budget regarding the reasonable expectations for project schedule. This disconnect leads to what Mullaly would call bad project Governance.
Please review that article and let us know what you think.
